New Works & Recording Grant
The SAMI New Works & Recording Grant supports the creation, development, and documentation of new musical projects by performing artists and ensembles. This program provides grants of up to $1,000, once per calendar year. The goal of the program is to encourage artistic innovation, expand the repertoire of contemporary jazz, and provide artists with resources to bring new creative work to life.
Funding may be used for a variety of project-related expenses, including artist fees, rehearsal costs, studio recording time, mixing and mastering, and other production needs directly connected to the creation or recording of new musical works. Projects may include premieres of original compositions, collaborative works between composers and performers, or recording projects that document newly created material.
The grant program is open to individual artists, composers, and performing ensembles working in any musical style. Applicants should demonstrate a clear artistic vision and outline how the funding will support the development or recording of new work. Preference may be given to projects that culminate in a public performance, recording release, or other form of community engagement that helps bring new music to wider audiences.
Through this program, the organization seeks to foster creativity, support working musicians, and contribute to a vibrant and evolving performing arts community in Southern Arizona. Grant applications can be sent to sonoraartsandmusic@gmail.com by January 31 and will be reviewed and awarded by March 31. Please include a detailed budget and timeline for your project.
